The Fruits of Bangladesh

  The fertile land of Bangladesh has made the production of fruits easy. She produces various kinds of fruits. Some of them are large, others small. Some are green, others yellow. Many of them are sweet and a few are sour. Most of them are fleshy while a small number contain watery juice. But whatever may be their size, color and taste, almost all of them are health-giving. Mango is the prince of fruits. Among the fruits the mango takes the lead by its sweetness and power of nutrition. It is called the prince of fruits. It has several varieties such as Fazli, Langra, Mohonbhog, Gopalbhog, Sitabhog etc. The Fazli is large-size mango found in Rajshahi, Bogra and Dinajpur districts. It is sweet and has a peculiar flavor of its own and is immune from the ravages of worms. Ordinary mangoes are more or less found in almost every district of Bangladesh.

Coconut
                     The coconut is a another common fruits of Bangladesh. The milk of coconut is a wholesome and refreshing drink and the kernel inside is a substantial and nutritious food. The orange is sweet and juicy and is very good for liver. The papaw is also a delicious and nutritious fruit, and like the orange, is very good for liver. Sylhet produces the best kind of orange and the papaw is found in almost every district in Bangladesh. The palm and the guava are well-known fruits. The guava contains sufficient amount of vitamin C.                             

                       The fruit that is much in demand throughout the year is the banana. It is a nice fruit and is as delicious as it is nutritious. It has different varieties such as the Amritasagar, the Sabri, the Kabri, the Agniswar, etc. Its green prototype is used as kitchen vegetables. Among other fruits Lichis, Black-berries, Dates, Plums, Melons, Figs, Native apples, Star apples, Jumbolines, Wood-apples, Pomegranates, and Green-melons deserve mention. Lichis are sweet and flavored and are in wide demand in summer. The melon is also a good fruit. Its watery juice is cool and refreshing. There are some fruits which taste sour. Of these the lemon is the most popular. It has different varieties of which the Kagzi is the best. The tamarind, the kamranga and the batabi also taste sour. Most of the fruits produced in Bangladesh are health-giving. Various kinds of tonic Syrups, jams and jellies are made from the juice of fruits, Sour fruits enter into the preparation of sour conserves. Fruit-culture and fruit eating can effectively lead to the promotion of our national health.
