THE MAP OF BANGLADESH |
Birth of Bangladesh
Bangladesh
is a country which got independence on the 16th December in 1971.
But its struggle for freedom dates back to the time when Indian subcontinent
was divided into two states – India
and Pakistan.
On the 14th August 1947,
Pakistan came
into being , comprising two wings- East and West Pakistan.
Immediately after the creation of Pakistan
, the people of East Bengal should their attitude as
unfriendly before the Pakistani dominated rulers. The Pak ruling clique began
to treat the East Bengal (later known as East
Pakistan) as a colony of West Pakistan. In
1948, Mr. Jinnah, the first governor
general of Pakistan
declared at Dhaka that Urdu alone would be the state Language of the country. This unfair , nay, impossible
contention of Mr. Jinnah surprised for the first time of the people of East
Bengal. The students came forward to agitate against the Pakistani
attempt of imposing Urdu upon the Bangles. Consequently
the heroic Language Movement
started. In the movement , a number of Bangle students laid down their lives
for the causes of their Language and culture. The movement gave a tremendous
impact to Bangladeshi nationalism which formed the independent Bangladesh.
The nationalist movement which was so long confined among the students and the literate
section of our people gradually reached
the common toiling masses. This was
evidenced in the Provincial Election in 1954.The United Front won a
landslide victory in the election giving a crushing defeat in the ruling Muslim
League. Unfortunately for East Pakistan , its provincial
government could not last long .Of that time the government of Pakistan
wanted to gag the voice of Bangladeshi nationalism.
In 1958, Ayub khan ,the Commander –in –chief of Pakistan came with his
Martial Law to mock at the Bangles to do away with their nationalism. During
the undemocratic and oppressive rule of Ayub khan, Sheikh Mujib- the
uncompromising champion of Bangladeshi nationalism –announced his famous six
points which terribly shook the sense of all the Bangladeshi people. To crush
the Sheikh, Ayub khan with sycophant governor, Monem khan, implicated to
fabricate Agartala Conspiracy case.
